  • Leah Dunford

Leah’s lifetime love of animals took her away from her position as Superintendent, Capital Planning and Coordination of Western Region Transport Canada to Royal Lepage Noralta where she worked as a realtor. She accepted a volunteer position at the Edmonton Valley Zoo where she continues to volunteer today. She later supported zoo growth through her work for the Valley Zoo Development Society first as executive director and later as director of revenue operations, where she raised funds and promoted awareness of the zoo, acting as a focal point for society liaison with zoo staff, the board and the broader community. Her duties included managing the zoo store and coordinating the Adopt an Animal Program and her favorite, arranging the sale of elephant art produced by Lucy, the zoo’s resident elephant. In April of 2012, Leah moved to the Edmonton Humane Society where she was hired to implement the new Prevent Another Litter Subsidy Program (PALS) coordinating all aspects of the program and acting as surgical assistant on clinic days. She was in charge of keeping the operation running smoothly as well as scheduling spay or neuter surgery. This included pre-surgery exam, treatment for parasites and immunization of approximately 2300 companion cats and dogs of low income families between June of 2012 and December of 2014. She brings administrative and customer service skills to Hamptons Animal Hospital/ Spay & Neuter Centre along with a varied skill set.
